The Ohio Casino Control Commission is thrashing out a regulatory model for the state right now, but the law requires the first mobile betting apps to be permitted to launch by January 1, 2023. Mike DeWine signed a bill permitting mobile sports betting toward the end of 2021.
States Soon to Welcome Legal Betting Apps Ohio Sports Betting Apps The Sports Wagering Advisory Council recently took over from the Tennessee Education Lottery as the state’s sportsbook app regulator, and it is under pressure to scrap a controversial 10% hold requirement for legal sports betting apps. BetMGM and DraftKings have been battling for market leadership, although FanDuel, Caesars and a few others are also available. The state does not have any casinos, so it issued standalone licenses to mobile sports betting app providers. Tennessee permitted betting apps for sports to begin accepting customers near the end of 2020. There is a Caesars Sportsbook app, but it is an old, legacy brand, which is totally different to the Caesars online sports betting app in other states. Sports betting apps available include FanDuel – the market leader – plus DraftKings, BetMGM, BetRivers, FOX Bet and a few others.
It has since blossomed into one of the largest and most diverse markets for online betting apps in the United States. Pennsylvania’s first mobile sports betting apps became available for download in 2019, almost a year after retail sports wagering began.
